The Departments of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and the Institute of Computational and Data Sciences at Penn State University invite applications for an open rank tenure-line faculty position in the development or application of machine learning and artificial intelligence in the areas of Chemical, Molecular, or Structural Biology. The fields are rich in data from diverse sources including, but not limited to, next-generation sequencing, mass spectrometry, Cryo-EM, and crystallography. There is significant potential for computational techniques to advance many areas of chemistry and biology.
Penn State has committed to leadership in AI development and application through investments, including a faculty cluster hire. Candidates will find a thriving computational community supported by the Institute for Computational and Data Sciences, the Center for Artificial Intelligence Foundations and Scientific Applications, and experimental experts in chemical, molecular, and structural biology. Applicants should hold a PhD and demonstrate accomplishments in developing or applying machine learning in these fields. An experimental component is encouraged but a strong computational component is essential.
Successful candidates for Assistant Professor will demonstrate strong research potential and a commitment to interdisciplinary research and education. Candidates for Associate Professor should have a robust record of research, publications, and funding. Candidates for Full Professor should have a distinguished record nationally and internationally.
The Institute for Computational and Data Sciences (ICDS) supports interdisciplinary computation and data-enabled science, fostering high-impact methodologies and their applications. It includes over 30 co-hired faculty and 300 affiliated researchers, with access to advanced research infrastructure. More information can be found at http://icds.psu.edu.
