Job summary

Everforth Apex Systems is seeking a Tenable Security Engineer to own and stabilize an on-prem Tenable SC deployment on Oracle Linux. You will ensure uptime, proper configuration, patching, and reporting across the environment, with a focus on vulnerability scanning and secure operations.

You will document configurations, procedures, and alerts, and collaborate with cyber operations and IT teams to explain findings. The role emphasizes ownership, clear communication, and opportunities to automate.

Tenable Security Engineer

Role Overview

This role requires taking ownership of an on-premise Tenable Security Center (Tenable SC) deployment. The primary objective is to stabilize the system, ensure it is properly configured, patched, and updated, and realize its full operational potential. The engineer will be responsible for the system’s uptime, operation, and reporting, operating on an Oracle Linux platform to support vulnerability scanning across the environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the day-to-day operation and uptime of the on-premise Tenable SC system and architect it to run more efficiently.
• Perform core maintenance, including updating and linking agents, running and scheduling scans, and upgrading and patching the system.
• Utilize the Linux command line on the Oracle Linux platform to perform upgrades and configuration changes.
• Configure reports, build dashboards, and organize scans to ensure vulnerability data is clear and consumable.
• Document the environment, including system configuration, standard procedures, and how alerts are addressed.
• Identify opportunities for automation and system improvement.
• Participate in meetings with cyber operations, cyber engineering, and operational IT teams to explain findings from Tenable SC.

Required Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with on-premise Tenable SC (Security Center) is required.
• Demonstrated ability to update and link agents, run scans, upgrade, and patch Tenable SC.
• Strong Linux command-line skills, specifically in an Oracle Linux environment.
• A solid foundation in core cybersecurity concepts, including vulnerability management.
• An engineer’s mindset with a focus on ownership, thorough documentation, and system improvement.
• Developed soft skills, including being personable, collaborative, and able to explain technical findings clearly.

Preferred Qualifications

• Background supporting Tenable SC in U.S. government or federal agency environments.
• Familiarity with adjacent vulnerability management and security tools such as BitSight, Qualys, and CrowdStrike.
• Experience automating routine vulnerability management and reporting tasks.
