Job description

Summary

The purpose of this temporary position is to provide a variety of public service functions, including delivering quality customer service to all library patrons, managing library materials, and providing youth programming. This role requires frequent customer interaction and the ability to perform multiple tasks efficiently.

Duration: November 11, 2026 – February 2, 2027

Duties
  • Primary assignment will be in Youth Services; however, the employee will be cross-trained and may assist in other areas as needed.
  • Provides youth programming, readers' advisory, and outreach services to library patrons.
  • Assists patrons with selecting materials and using digital resources.
  • Plans and presents weekly story times for children of various ages to meet the needs of the community.
  • Records program attendance for statistical purposes.
    Coordinates and maintains library displays in the Youth Services area of the library.
  • Responds to routine patron inquiries in person, by telephone, and through other communication channels.
  • Pulls, processes, and manages requested library materials.
  • Shelves, straightens, and maintains library collections in proper order.
  • Conducts shelf reading and searches for lost or missing materials.
  • Maintains a welcoming, organized, and customer-focused library environment.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, twist, talk, hear, and use hands to reach, finger, grasp, handle, feel, and/or operate objects, tools, or controls. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and office equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee is occasionally to frequently required to climb, balance, stoop, crouch, squat, kneel, and crawl. The employee must occasionally to frequently lift and/or carry up to 20 pounds and frequently to constantly lift and/or carry up to 10 pounds. The employee must frequently to constantly push and/or pull loaded book carts and/or boxes of materials.

Schedule

Required Hours: Tuesday and Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Remaining Hours: Eight hours per week to be scheduled between Tuesday and Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Exact shift days and times will be finalized with the hiring manager upon hire and will become the employee's set weekly schedule.
