Job summary

Worthington Libraries is seeking a Youth Services Library Associate at Old Worthington Library. This part-time 20-hour position assists patrons, recommends materials, and supports librarians in maintaining the collection and conducting programs.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree or a high school diploma/GED with relevant experience, plus customer service and tech skills. Ability to pass sorting and computer skills tests is expected.

Qualifications

• Requires Bachelor’s degree or high school diploma or GED with equivalent experience.
• Minimum 1 year of customer service experience.
• Ability to pass alphanumeric sorting test and computer skills test.
• Proficient in ILS and Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Proactively provide customer service to patrons.
• Interview, research, and answer patron questions.
• Recommend materials based on patrons’ interests.
• Support librarians in developing and maintaining the collection.
• Maintain periodical collections and related paperwork.
• Assist patrons with basic tech troubleshooting of software and devices.
• Assist with planning, coordinating, and presenting library programs and events.
• Perform duties of Storytime Associate and Circulation Assistant as needed.

Proactively provides customer service2. Interviews, researches, and answers questions from patrons3. Recommends materials based on patrons’ interest4. Supports Librarians in developing and maintaining the collection, as directed5. Maintains periodical collections, including associated paperwork, tracking claims, routing, filing, labeling, stamping and weeding out-of-date materials, as assigned6. Assists patrons with basic troubleshooting of common software products, operating systems, browsers and other technologies associated with library services (including handheld devices, e-readers, laptops, tablets, etc.)7. Assists with planning, coordination and presentation of library programs, storytimes and special events, as assigned8. Performs duties of Storytime Associate and Circulation Assistant, as needed## Required experience### Education, Training and/or Experiences1. Bachelor’s degree or a high school diploma or GED and an equivalent combination of education, training and experience, and2. A minimum of one (1) year of customer service experience; and3. Proficient in the use of the Integrated Library System (ILS)2. Ability to maintain confidentiality and use appropriate judgment in handling information and records3. Superior working knowledge of traditional and electronic resources including web sites and databases; excellent online searching skills6. Ability to deliver programs and speak before groups7. Ability to sit and use computer for extended periods and operate standard office equipment, daily2. Ability to lift and move up to fifty (50) pounds, daily3.
