Job summary

The City of Burlington, Vermont is seeking a Field Technician to paint road markings, install signs, and maintain/repair parking meters. The role also involves supporting ROW operations and interacting with the public in a respectful manner.

Responsibilities include laying out meters, collecting revenue, and assisting in all traffic-related tasks across the city. Candidates must be able to lift 75 lbs with assistance and operate related equipment as required.

Qualifications

  • Ability to lift 75 lbs with assistance.
  • Willing and able to learn to operate all equipment.
  • Familiarity with traffic control procedures preferred.

  • Maintain paint machine and all associated products.
  • Collect, record and deposit meter revenue on a daily basis.
  • Assist in the lay-out and spacing of proposed meters.
  • Collect, record and deposit pay station revenue as needed.
  • Assist in the installation, repair and removal of all traffic signs city-wide.
  • Assist in the installation of roadway and parking lot pavement markings.
  • Assist other work teams when needed.
  • Act as Ambassador for the City, interacting with coworkers and the public in a respectful, professional manner.

Job description

This position is responsible for painting road markings, and installation of signs, as well as the installation, maintenance and repair of parking meters. In addition this position is responsible for assisting in all Right of Way (ROW) operations as needed.

Union Affiliation: Non-Union
Pay Grade:$22.00 Hourly
Remote Tier 1: Zero (0) days remote/week
  • Paint crosswalks, arrows, stop bars, school legends, railroad legends, and other such marking maintained by the Traffic Department.
  • Maintain paint machine and all associated products.
  • Collect, record and deposit all meter revenue on a daily basis.
  • Assist in the lay-out and spacing of proposed meters.
  • Collect, record and deposit pay station revenue as needed.
  • Assist in the installation, repair and removal all traffic signs City-wide.
  • Assist in the installation of all roadway and parking lot pavement markings.
  • Assist other work teams when needed.
  • Act as "Ambassador" for the City, carrying out work and interacting with co-workers and the public in a respectful, professional manner.

  • Ability to manually lift and operate 45 pound post driver for installation of 12 foot sign poles.
  • Ability to lift and carry 75 lbs. with assistance required.
  • Ability to obtain appropriate certification of completion for all classes and trainings attended as required to maintain department equipment.
  • Familiarity with traffic control procedures preferred.Ability to lay out parking spaces preferred.
  • Regular attendance is necessary and is essential to meeting the expectations of the job functions.
  • Ability to understand and comply with City standards, safety rules and personnel policies.
