Job summary

Salt River Project in Phoenix, AZ is hiring a Temporary Trades Helper 1st Year (Power Pool) to assist journeyman and crew with construction and maintenance tasks on water and power systems. Under supervision, you will learn safety practices and hands-on skills in a fast-paced environment.

Summary

Under direct supervision, performs various tasks of a semi-skilled nature in assisting journeyman and others of a higher job classification in assigned work. This job has four-steps of progression and stress is placed on the ability to learn and apply work and safety practices used at SRP. Employee is committed to achieve the highest goals or excellence in serving our customers and working with fellow employees.

Any one position may not include all duties nor do the example of duties include all tasks, which may be found in the position of this class.

  • Loads, unloads, handles and works with various types of tools, materials and equipment.
  • Operates various types of equipment in the performance of the job.
  • Assists crew leader, journeyman and others in performing assigned tasks to include such work as; installing pipe/conduit, construction of all types of canal and water systems, building forms, mixes and applies various construction material and products, masonry and concrete work, electrical meter installation, installing and terminating electrical cable, repair and assembly of electrical equipment and structures, rigging equipment to be lifted. Uses hand tools to complete assigned work.
  • Performs or assists in the disassembly, repair, assembly and testing of various equipment.
  • Responsible for safety of others and that work is accomplished in a cost effective manner.
  • Keeps work areas and premises in a neat, clean and orderly manner.
  • Must be willing to accept emergency call outs during off duty hours and occasionally work nights and work temporarily out of town.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Employee must work safely and efficiently in the performance of their job duties. Must maintain effective working relationships with other employees, customers and the public. Must have the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, and have the ability to accurately and legibly complete applicable paper work. May be required to work a reasonable amount of overtime.
Education

A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.

Additional Requirements and Qualifications
  • Must display courtesy, tact and cooperation to maintain effective working relationships with other employees, customers and the public.
  • Must be highly motivated individuals who can maintain a positive attitude under physically demanding conditions.
  • Must have the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, and have the ability to accurately and legible complete applicable paper work.
  • Appropriate respirator medical certification, fit test and training required.
  • Responsible for safety of others and that work is accomplished in a cost effective manner.
  • Must be willing to accept emergency call outs during off duty hours and occasionally work nights and work temporarily out of town.
  • Mechanical Aptitude.
Testing and Certifications

Trades Assessment

Must possess the appropriate valid Arizona driver's license.

Appropriate respirator medical certification, fit test and training required.

Physical Agility Test
