Job summary

Salt River Project (SRP) in Arizona seeks an experienced Senior Engineer to provide engineering services for reliable transmission planning and cost-effective energy solutions. You will lead analyses, coordinate with management, and guide consultants to support SRP’s goals for water and power delivery.

You will perform long-range transmission studies, evaluate generator connections, document findings, and participate in industry groups.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from ABET-accredited program.
  • Five years of full-time engineering experience.
  • Passion for power systems and transmission planning.
  • PE license or registration preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering services to SRP in a technically sound, safe, timely and cost effective manner.
  • Perform annual transmission planning analysis of the transmission system and determine capital projects needed in the next six to ten years.
  • Analyze impact of connecting large and small generator projects of varying technologies (including renewables) to the transmission system.
  • Analyze impact of connecting large, dedicated customer loads to the transmission system.
  • Document results, provide updates to management, and present/train on study results as required.
  • Administer and review work performed by consultants and others.
  • Actively participate in industry committees and tasks forces as a representative of SRP.
  • Demonstrate complex problem-solving skills for power systems and advocate SRP's position in public/industry forums.

Summary

Provide engineering services to SRP in a technically sound, safe, timely and cost effective manner to enable SRP to realize its goals and objectives for providing water and energy related services.

  • Perform annual transmission planning analysis of the transmission system and determine capital projects needed in the next six to ten years.
  • Perform analysis to determine the impact of connecting large and small generator projects of varying technologies (including renewables) to the transmission system.
  • Perform analysis to determine the impact of connecting large, dedicated customer loads to the transmission system.
  • Document the results of all analysis performed, provide updates to management, and present and train on study results as required.
  • Administer and review work performed by consultants and others.
  • Actively participate in industry committees and tasks forces as a representative of SRP as required.
  • Complex problem-solving skills for power systems and the ability to advocate on SRP's behalf in public and industry forum
Education

Completion of a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum, an International Engineering Alliance (IEA) recognized institution, ABET Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) or any state or internationally recognized PE registration.

Experience

Five (5) years full time experience actively engaged in engineering practice. Must have demonstrated the successful accomplishment of work of the nature defined for the job of Senior Engineer.

Promotion to Level 2 requires a minimum of two years of experience at Level 1; demonstrated capability to perform advanced and more difficult work as determined by the supervisor. Promotion to Senior Level requires a minimum of three years of experience at Level 2; is fully competent in all aspects of functional area of assignment and as such would be recognized as a specialist in area of assignment and may have periodic or occasional lead responsibilities.

Additional Requirements and Qualifications

Responsible for project budgets and schedules. Occasional contacts with customers and outside agencies. Contacts with suppliers of equipment and services. Occasional travel to suppliers facilities, industry organizational functions and SRP facilities. Ability to work effectively with various organizational groups within SRP. Ability to use engineering tools required for the job (i.e., computer, test equipment, etc.).

Testing and Certifications

Must possess the appropriate valid Arizona driver’s license.

Hybrid Workplace

SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
