Come join our awesome team as a Maintenance Assistant with Rochester Homestead! We offer generous benefits and a great work environment!

Rochester Homestead is part of Volunteers of America Services, which serves as the Housing and Healthcare affiliate of the Volunteers of America parent organization.

Pay: $18.62 up to $22.26

Schedule: This is a full-time temporary summer position, M-F and occasional weekends.

About the job:

The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for preventative maintenance, painting, and repairs inside and outside the facility to provide a safe, attractive, and orderly environment for the benefit, use, enjoyment, protection of staff and visitors.

Essentials:
  1. Performs designated cleaning tasks and preventative maintenance services.
  2. Sweeping, mopping, wet washing/shampooing and vacuuming floors/carpets in ancillary service and common areas of the facility.
  3. Stripping, waxing, and polishing all floors in accordance with the facility floor covering maintenance schedule.
  4. Washing walls, ceilings, and common area lighting fixtures.
  5. Gathering, transporting, and disposing of trash.
  6. Cleaning waste receptacles.
  7. Informs supervisor of supply or equipment needs.
  8. Keeps storage areas locked with supplies properly stored according to established procedures.
  9. Store all germicides, pesticides, and other toxic substances clearly labeled and locked away when not in use.
Qualifications:
  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Ability to read, understand, and follow written and oral instructions to identify chemicals and cleaning agents from labels and understand directions for use.
  3. Willingness and ability to perform routine, repetitive tasks with frequent interruptions.
  4. Minimum of two (2) years previous building maintenance experience desired.
  5. Some knowledge of state building, plumbing, and electrical codes and local ordinances.
  6. Able to understand technical manuals used to install and repair machinery and equipment.
  7. Coordination and dexterity needed to handle tools and equipment parts.
  8. Must be capable of making decisions in an emergency.
  9. Ability to utilize computers and other electronic devices for tasks such as timekeeping, in-servicing, and documentation.
  10. Able and willing to work flexible hours, such as during an emergency situation or on-call.

Additional qualifications include experience in the healthcare industry.
