Job summary

The Museum of Modern Art in New York is recruiting four full-time temporary Sales Associates for the MoMA Store, located inside the Museum on West 53rd Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. You will provide knowledgeable, thoughtful, and inspiring customer service to help achieve the store's sales and metrics goals.

Reporting to Store Managers and Supervisors, you will uphold MoMA's standards and adhere to museum and retail policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum one year in retail sales.
• Strong customer service mindset.
• Fluency in language in addition to English language a plus.
• Proficiency with POS, email, Inventory Management Systems.

Responsibilities

• Greet, relate, engage and thank customers.
• Handle register transactions, memberships, email capture, and gift wrap.
• Maintain product knowledge and assist in selections.
• Stock maintenance: signage, lighting, cleanliness.
• Participate in inventory and training sessions.
• Attend staff meetings and vendor trainings.

Job description

The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applications for four full-time temporary Sales Associates for the Museum Store, located directly in the Museum on West 53rd Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. Reporting to Store Managers and Supervisors, the Sales Associates are expected to deliver a knowledgeable, thoughtful, and inspiring customer service experience which plays an integral role in achieving the store's sales and metric goals. Additionally, the Sales Associates are expected to uphold MoMA's standards and to adhere to and apply Museum and Retail policies and procedures. Sales Associates are also expected to proactively connect to the Museum to support a holistic visitor experience.

Additional Responsibilities Include

• Provides G.R.E.A.T customer service (Greet. Relate. Engage. Thank).
• Proactively reaches out and engages customers on a regular basis.
• Maintains a professional and positive presence on the sales floor.
• Performs register transactions, including sales, memberships, email capture, and gift wrap.
• Responds to customer inquiries and assists in making selections.
• Maintains a high level of Museum and product-related knowledge.
• Executes daily stock maintenance by ensuring that all merchandise and fixtures are signed, displayed, lit, and clean.
• Participates in physical inventory.
• Opens and closes cash registers and is held accountable for any discrepancies noted by manager.
• Complies with all zoning and scheduling.
• Participates in all MoMA Design Store, Museum, and vendor trainings.
• Advises Assistant Store Manager, Operations of out-of-stock merchandise and inventory discrepancies.
• Visits the Museum regularly to keep abreast of current exhibitions and collections gallery rotations.
• Attends product, vendor and customer service training.
• Participates in advanced education opportunities as offered.
• Attends staff meetings.
• Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum one year in retail sales.
• Committed to delivering a high level of customer service.
• Strong verbal, organizational, and communication skills.
• Able to perform physical tasks as needed.
• Interest in design, books, art, and architecture is desirable.
• Fluency in language in addition to English language a plus.
• Proficiency with POS, email, Inventory Management Systems.

Salary

The salary for this position is $19.50 per hour.
