Job summary

NC State University in Raleigh, NC seeks a Temporary Research Technician to support arthropod sample processing and field collection. The role involves handling large numbers of specimens under supervision, recording pest data, and assisting with greenhouse work.

Training is provided for preferred tasks. Work will involve labeling and organizing samples, field collection activities, and complying with safety and quality standards.

Job description

• Processing large numbers of arthropod samples under the stereoscope.


• Identifying and recording numbers of major insect and mite pests of small fruit crops.


• Labeling and organizing arthropod samples.


• Assisting with greenhouse and field collection of arthropod samples.


• Experience using a stereoscope is preferred.


• Experience with arthropod identification is preferred but is not required; training can be provided.

Schedule: 35-40 hours per week, 8 am-5 pm with 1 hour lunch break. Fieldworkdays may be longer 10-11-hour days (1-3 days per week, 1-2 times per month).
