Hiawatha Elementary School in Othello, Washington is seeking a Paraprofessional for the 26-27 school year. This temporary position supports teachers with small group and individual instruction and helps maintain student safety.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, an AA or 48 credits (or ParaPro), and reliable, patient interaction with children. Salary is per the PSE CBA; 179 days plus holidays, with benefits outlined by the district.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• AA degree or 48 credits or 72-quarter credits or ETS ParaPro passed.
• Dependable, trustworthy; experience with children and adults; good time management.
• Physically able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to walk, stand, sit, stoop, bend, reach, kneel, crawl, and grasp as required.

Responsabilités

• Assist teachers with small group and individual instruction.
• Assist teachers in all areas of their work.
• Correct daily work assignments of students in all areas.
• Operate various pieces of equipment, i.e., copy machines, video equipment, typewriters, computers, recorders, etc.
• Assist individual students in teacher-monitored classrooms.
• Assist teachers in monitoring individual student objectives.
• Provide for student’s safety.
• Assist students with the development of self-help skills, speech and fine and gross motor skills.
• Communicate with parents and translate as needed depending on specific job requirements.
• Provide activities and instruction for students as planned by the teachers.
• Interpret teacher instructions and lessons.
• Work as part of the student’s IEP team.
• Utilize language development activities to enrich student vocabulary.
• Assist with maintaining discipline.
• Assist students in other classes as necessary.
• Implement behavioral intervention strategies.
• Other duties as assigned by building principal and/or administrator.
