Job summary

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a Part-Time NTSP Instructional Coach to support beginning teachers through coaching, professional learning institutes, and personalized development. You will deliver the program's three core services, collaborate with supervisors and mentors, and travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in education or related field, or a BA with two years of relevant teaching or instructional design experience.
  • Experience leading adult professional learning and familiarity with mentoring standards.
  • Strong data collection, analysis, and evidence-based decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver three core services: professional learning institute, individualized instructional coaching, and aligned professional development.
  • Support beginning teachers with consistent, in-the-moment coaching aligned to growth.

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The School of Education is an academic unit reporting to the Provost. The School is a major center of research, teaching, and public service within the State of North Carolina, the nation, and the world. The School offers a full range of undergraduate and graduate programs. The mission of the School of Education is to conduct research, and generate basic and applied knowledge about human development, educational technology and entrepreneurship, teaching and learning, school counseling, school psychology, administration, as well as educational policy and leadership; prepare leaders in the profession of education by conducting outstanding research, teaching, and service; and assist in the development of strong and effective public schools in North Carolina. In order to fulfill its mission, the School is organized into three academic divisions: (1) Culture, Curriculum, & Teacher Education (CCATE), (2) Learning, Development & Psychological Sciences (LDPS), and (3) Educational Policy, Organization, & Leadership (EPOL).



Position Summary

The vision of the North Carolina New Teacher Support Program (NC NTSP) is to be a leader in university-based induction support through the belief in and practice of transformative, intentional coaching to increase student achievement by improving beginning teacher effectiveness and retention.


The mission of the NC NTSP is to support beginning teachers through consistent, individualized, in-the-moment coaching aligned to individualized growth and personalized professional development.


The primary role of the NC NTSP Part-Time Instructional Coach position is to support beginning teachers through the delivery of the program's three core services 1) professional learning institute, 2) individualized instructional coaching, and 3) aligned professional development.


This is a part-time, stated-definite term, non-faculty position in the UNC-General Assembly New Teacher Mentoring Project administered by the College of Education at East Carolina University. This position includes travel. Required approved travel is reimbursed per NTSP policies.



Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Master's degree in education, special education, instructional design, educational technology, educational media, or related discipline with coursework in curriculum development or learning theory; or a Bachelor's degree in the assigned discipline and two years of experience in teaching, educational testing, or instructional design and curriculum development; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.



Management Preferences


  • Experience leading adult professional learning

  • Knowledge of NCSCOS, NC Professional Teaching Standards, NC DPI Induction Program, Mentor Standards or teacher leadership standards

  • Highly knowledgeable of the Teaching Fellows program and initiatives

  • Skilled in data collection, analysis, or evidence-based decision-making
