Job summary

Amarillo Independent School District is seeking a part‑time Substitute Teacher Clerk to support daily classroom operations and student supervision. The role emphasizes confidentiality, safety, and adherence to school policies while assisting teachers and staff.

The position requires a high school diploma (Some College hours preferred) and involves frequent interruptions, maintaining professional attire, and working within a busy educational environment at the Education Support Center.

Manage student learning in accordance with the goals and directives of the school and the division

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Certification:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Some College Hours- preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Knowledge of instructional practices in a school setting
  • Ability to follow lesson a plan
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with staff, students and community members
  • Conflict resolution skills
  • Discipline management skills
  • Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds
Technology Skills Preferred

Work Conditions:

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals

Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Repetitive hand motions including keyboarding; reaching

Lifting: Lifting and carrying (less than 50 pounds)

Environment: Must be able to work with frequent interruptions and maintain professional demeanor under stress; must wear professional attire

Minimum Experience

Prior employment experience working with school-aged children- preferred

Prior exoerience working in a school setting-preferred

Major Responsibilities And Duties
  • Maintain and respect confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
  • Maintain a discipline and classroom control that foster a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school and county policies.
  • Ensure the adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Report to office upon arrival at school; check mailbox of absent teacher for materials requiring immediate attention; request clarification of school rules and procedures, if necessary.
  • Report all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible.
  • Implement lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate.
  • Organize students for effective instruction.
  • Dismiss all students from the classroom before leaving the building.
  • Collect and place students papers in regular teachers desk.
  • Return instructional materials, equipment, and keys to proper place.
  • Determine if his/her services will be required for the next school day.
  • Comply with and supports school and division regulations and policies.
  • Model non-discriminatory practices in all activities; Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers including the Texas Educator Code of Ethics.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school/division policies and practices.
