Job summary

Northern Valley Indian Health is hiring a Medical Assistant to support the ambulatory care team. You will room patients, take vitals, perform lab duties including phlebotomy, and assist with injections, EHR documentation, and patient flow across multiple sites.

This role requires current medical assistant training, California CMA certification preferred, and 1 year of experience with strong communication and organizational skills. Travel between NVHI sites is expected as needed.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
• Current certification from approved certification programs listed on the California Medical Board for Medical Assistants preferred.
• Six (6) months of training in Certification in phlebotomy preferred.
• One (1) year experience as a medical assistant preferred.
• Electronic Health Records experience required.
• Ability to perform blood draws and properly label specimens.
• Ability to perform injections as outlined in clinic policy.
• Strong scheduling awareness and time management.

Responsibilities

• Supports the medical team with rooming patients and preparing the patient and provider for the patient experience, by documenting visit reason and taking vitals.
• Performs nursing laboratory duties including urine tests, Hemoglobin A1C, lipid panels, and rapid screens per policy.
• Performs blood draws, injections, and documents specimens for lab processing.
• Conducts eye and audiometric screening and basic EKGs as needed.
• Assists with third-party billing and charting for programs like WIC and CHDP.
• Maintains patient care standards and follows Medical Department procedures.
• Communicates issues to leadership and coordinates with nursing and medical staff.
• Travels between sites for training or coverage as directed.
