Job summary

Museum of the Bible in Washington, DC seeks a Temporary Living History Interpreter to perform as a scripted first-century Bethlehem character during the Christmas season. The role is onsite, part-time, with rehearsals and performances scheduled through late December and into early January, and reports to the Audience Engagement Manager.

Compensation is $18.75 per hour, non-union, with benefits typical for the museum.

Qualifications

• Past performance experience preferred.
• Ability to perform in an immersive, scripted role.

Position Summary

• This is a temporary position where actors will perform in an immersive performance as a scripted character in first century Bethlehem during the birth of Jesus of Nazareth.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Memorization of script and stage blocking.
• Availability to commit to rehearsals and performances when scheduled.
• Work with the director, LHI program mentors, and the Guest Engagement Manager for development and presentation excellence and communicate with the Guest Engagement Manager.
• Champions the Museum of the Bible’s mission to invite all people to engage with the transformative power of the Bible.

Education

• Past performance experience preferred.

Qualifications

Abilities / Attributes:

• At least 18 years of age.
• Travel to as needed.
• Ability to stand or move for extended periods of time.
• Ability to maintain active engagement and energy over a multi-hour period.
• As required, inclusion in official or incidental photographs and videos for MOTB and/or guests. *

Skills

• Verbal communication skills, the ability to interface playfully and professionally with kids and families.
• The ability to interface professionally with a diverse, international audience.
• Excellent problem-solving and conflict resolution skills, and a significant amount of personal and professional integrity.
• Physical demands/requirements are as follows:
• Sit for up to 8 hours a day.
• Squat bending at the knees.
• Stand for long periods of time.
• Lift up to 10 lbs. for short periods of time.
