Job summary

Equality Charter School in Bronx, NY seeks a Temporary Leave Replacement Science Sped to continue engaging students with hands-on science learning and restorative practices. Immediate start, daily schedule 7:30 AM–3:00 PM, extended to 4:00 PM on Tuesdays, with a strong emphasis on collaboration, planning, and student growth.

Candidates should hold a NY State Teaching Certification in Physical Education (or reciprocity in process) and a bachelor’s degree.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field (Master’s preferred).
• New York State Teaching Certification in Physical Education (or reciprocity).
• Proven classroom management skills with the ability to create a structured and positive learning environment.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues, parents, and students.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to motivate students while fostering a supportive classroom culture.
• Experience in incorporating hands‑on, cooperative, and interactive learning activities in physical education.
• Passion for working with urban students and understanding the challenges they face.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and a collaborative approach to teaching.

Responsibilities

• Five out of eight daily periods are student facing. This is typically five instructional classes, though at times and based on school needs, one period may include a lunch duty
• Prep periods are intentionally used for co planning with co teachers in core content areas and for instructional coaching meetings
• Participation in department meetings and other collaborative professional learning opportunities is expected
• The daily work schedule is 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM
• On Tuesdays, the schedule extends from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM to allow for professional development and team collaboration
