Mission

*It is the mission of the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) to impact and transform young lives, strengthen families, and support safer communities through targeted prevention and rehabilitation.*

Job Purpose

Under general supervision, perform laundry services for the Broad River Road Complex to ensure a clean and healthy environment related to the hygiene of incarcerated youth.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Coordinate laundering or linen handling tasks.
  2. Wash and dry clothes according to procedures.
  3. Check apparel, linens, or laundered articles to meet quality standards.
  4. Perform routine equipment checks.
  5. Keep inventory and production records.
  6. Manage count sheets.
  7. Operate automated sewing equipment for repairs of youth clothing.
  8. Transport clothes to and from living units as needed, including driving state vehicles.
  9. Perform other duties to support the agency's mission.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
State Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Complete agency’s defensive driving course with a passing grade.
  • Pass a drug test.
Additional Requirements
  • Knowledge of safety practices relevant to employment area.
  • Knowledge of laundering tasks and linen handling procedures.
  • Knowledge of automated sewing operations and skill in operating sewing equipment.
  • Ability to keep accurate records and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work any shift, stay over if necessary, lift over 50 lbs., and work around youth without restrictions.
