MISSION:
It is the mission of the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) to impact and transform young lives, strengthen families, and support safer communities through targeted prevention and rehabilitation.

JOB PURPOSE:

Under general supervision, perform general laundry service for the Broad River Road Complex laundry to ensure a clean and healthy environment relating to personnel hygiene of incarcerated youth.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinates the performance of laundering or linen handling tasks.

Washing and drying clothes as described by procedure.

Checks apparel, linens, or laundered articles to ensure acceptable standards of quality are met.

Performs routine checks on equipment.

Keeps inventory or production records.

Manages all count sheets.

Operates automated sewing equipment to make necessary repairs of youth clothing.

Assist with transporting clothes to and from living units to laundry room when needed.

Must be able to drive state vehicle.

Other duties and tasks as assigned to further the agency's mission.

STATE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A high school diploma or GED. Must complete agency's defensive driving course with a passing grade and pass a drug test.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:


Requires knowledge of safety practices relevant to the area of employment.

Knowledge of how to properly perform laundering tasks.

Knowledge of institutional linen handling procedures.

Knowledge of automated sewing operations.

Skill in the operation and care of automated sewing equipment.

Ability to keep accurate records.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Essential Position: Must be able to work any shift and stay over if necessary. Work in lock quarters, be able to lift over 50 +lbs., must be mobile and must be able to work around youth without restrictions.

This position performs job duties to the custody, control, transportation or recapture of youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice and the employee may have direct and indirect contact with youth of the Department of Juvenile Justice. Training applicable to these duties will be provided.
