Description

The Department of Biology in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Temporary Lab Assistant.


About the Opportunity


The employee will engage in laboratory and data analysis activities in plant genomics, focusing on parasitic orchid research in the genera Corallorhiza and Cephalanthera. The employee will also assist graduate and undergraduate students with their genomics research.


What You'll Do:



  • Prepare solutions

  • Extract DNA

  • Amplify DNA

  • Prepare sequencing libraries

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of laboratory spaces.

  • Assist graduate and undergraduate students in lab work

  • Present research at a symposium


Pay Grade: 15


Length of Assignment: Approximately 3 Months

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biology or related field.

  • 0-6 months of wet lab experience.

  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.

  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

  • Demonstrated ability to extract DNA from plant tissue.

  • Demonstrated ability to follow Environmental Health and Safety protocols.

  • Demonstrated ability to learn new techniques (DNA amplification, library preparation).

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.

  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to effectively use Excel and PowerPoint.
