Program : Residential

Type: Part -time; Non-Exempt

Pay Range: $15.50 – $ 20.00 (per hour)

St. Catherine’s Center for Children is a non-profit organization that offers a wide array of services designed to meet the needs of vulnerable children, families and adults, including residential and foster care programs for children and youth, homeless and community-based services for adults and families, and a special education elementary school.

Duties/Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To

  • Adheres to the work plan provided by the Program Manager, which may include providing housekeeping services at other than his/her primary location.
  • Follows the assigned duties as listed in the daily, weekly and monthly cleaning schedules, including the following:
    • Wash, dry and fold laundry, return items to respective storage places and clean laundry areas as needed.
    • Sweep and mop floors including offices and medication rooms.
    • Vacuum carpets, rugs and stairs.
    • Clean bathrooms and facilities, including medication rooms, and sanitize as needed.
    • Request supplies as needed and keep equipment in safe working condition.
    • Return trashcans to storage area.
    • Follow regulations used to control infectious diseases.
    • Check storage areas and organize them as needed.
    • At end of shift ensure that all windows and doors are securely locked.
  • Completes seasonal or periodic tasks as assigned by the Cleaning Supervisor, including:
    • Cleans windows and windowsills
    • Cleans and organizes the storage room
    • Cleans curtains and seat covers
  • As an employee of St. Catherine's adheres to the agency's philosophy and policies
  • Adheres to communicable disease and infection control procedures.
  • Additional position-related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Program Manager.
Organizational Relationships

  • The Housekeeper reports to and is directly responsible to the Program Manager.
  • The Housekeeper will also work in cooperation with other Program staff and the Quality Assurance Team, to achieve best results.

Position Specifications/Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Prior experience in general housekeeping duties, required.
  • A commitment to maintaining a clean, safe and attractive environment.
  • Clean and valid New York State Driver’s License.
  • Ability to work after regular business hours to complete all assigned job tasks.
  • Previous experience working in a human services agency, is a plus!
  • Excellent organization, planning and time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and exhibit empathy for those in need.
  • Ability to handle sensitive data with strict confidentiality.
  • Self-motivated and engaged, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated placidity and patience; flexibility and adaptability.
  • Must be willing and able to work in close proximity with the clients we serve.
  • Must have the ability to pass required pre-employment background checks.

Essential Functions

  • Ability to work after normal business hours in a setting with minimal oversight while still completing all assigned job tasks and assuring the security of agency owned and employee owned property located in the facility.
  • Flexibility to work hours outside of regularly scheduled work hours, within reason.
  • A respectful and caring attitude toward children with various backgrounds and struggles.
  • Flexibility to meet unexpected demands of the position.
  • Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships with staff and clients.
  • Must be able to be mobile throughout multilevel living units.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other personnel/ service providers or professionals.
  • Ability to interact with a wide range of people, including those who are culturally and socio-economically diverse, as well as people with various developmental and cognitive functioning levels.
  • Ability to carry out written documentation as required by St. Catherine's policies and procedures and as required by regulating agencies.
  • Ability to understand, communicate, represent and carry out the mission, values, philosophy and policies of St. Catherine’s Center for Children.
  • Ability to work effectively in a shared decision-making model as a team member.
  • Ability to organize and effectively manage, in a timely fashion, the varied tasks of the position.
