Temporary Highway Maintenance Worker - Norfolk and Surrounding Areas

Join us as a Temporary Highway Maintenance Worker at State of Nebraska and contribute to road safety and maintenance across Norfolk and surrounding areas.

Position Details

Duration: Summer until November 30, 2025. Hours may vary based on weather conditions.

Pay: Starting at $19.50/hour, with potential promotion to $20.998/hour for CDL holders.

Locations

Albion, Bloomfield, Clarkson, Columbus, Crofton, Hartington, Humphrey, Laurel, Lyons, Neligh, Newcastle, Niobrara, Norfolk, Plainview, South Sioux City, Wayne, West Point.

Responsibilities

1. Operate heavy equipment for road maintenance.
2. Perform tree trimming and respond to highway emergencies.
3. Safely move and load equipment, materials, and hazardous substances.
4. Spread and tamp surfacing materials.
5. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license.
• For senior roles, possession of a Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with air brakes and tanker endorsements is required within 60 days.
• Experience with heavy equipment operation is preferred.
• May require out-of-town travel and availability for emergency reporting outside scheduled hours.

Skills & Abilities

Ability to lift 35 pounds frequently, up to 60 pounds occasionally, and over 90 pounds with assistance. Capable of working outdoors in temperature extremes and near high-speed traffic.
