Job summary

GBOE seeks a High School Social Studies/Civics teacher for Garfield High School. You will develop curriculum, plan lessons, and guide students in world cultures, geography, and governance. The role emphasizes critical thinking, research skills, and responsible citizenship.

You will collaborate with staff, engage families, and assess student progress while maintaining records. Strong content knowledge and NJ certification are required, with a preference for a Master's degree and prior teaching

Qualifications

• New Jersey State Certification as a Social Studies Teacher.
• Bachelor's degree in education discipline applicable to teaching.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Successful prior teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develops and administers Social Studies curriculum aligned with district goals.
• Creates lesson plans and learning experiences to engage students.
• Teaches social studies across history, geography, economics and government.
• Fosters understanding of diverse groups and human rights in society.
• Assesses student learning and adjusts instruction to meet needs.
• Engages parents and coordinates with faculty to support student success.
• Maintains accurate records and participates in meetings and committees.
