Job summary

Alachua County Supervisor of Elections is seeking a temporary Operations Assistant to support the configuration, deployment and maintenance of voting equipment across polling locations. The position operates under supervision and involves hands-on technical tasks and data entry.

Responsibilities include site surveys, stocking and transporting equipment, driving a county vehicle, and maintaining the Elections Operations Center.

Qualifications

  • Requires high school diploma or equivalent and successful completion of a criminal history background investigation.
  • Valid Florida driver's license and an MVR meeting policy standards.
  • Past 24 months must not show more than three moving violations or three at-fault accidents (or combined) to meet minimum qualifications.
  • Temporary position; 40 hours/week through November 2026; related to voting equipment operations.

Responsibilities

  • Configure, diagnose, and perform basic repairs on voting equipment following step-by-step instructions.
  • Perform site surveys at polling place facilities.
  • Stock equipment, supplies, booths, and ballots for each polling place.
  • Transport materials to polling locations and drive county vehicle.
  • Organize and maintain Elections Operations Center.
  • Data entry and document scanning; maintain cleanliness of election vehicles.

Job description

Graduation from high school or equivalent; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Successful completion of a criminal history background investigation is required prior to employment.

Valid Florida Driver License is required and a Motor Vehicle Record that meets the requirements of Alachua County policy #6-7; Motor Vehicle Records will be reviewed prior to employment. If, in the past 24-month period, the applicant’s Motor Vehicle Record has more than three (3) moving traffic infractions or three (3) or more at fault motor vehicle accidents (or combination of both and/or a conviction/pending charge for driving under the influence) or is in violation of any standard mandated by Federal or State Law or Regulation, the minimum qualifications are not met for the position.

Successful completion of a criminal history background investigation is required prior to employment.

This temporary position will consist of working 40 hours/week, excluding holidays, through November 2026

This is technical work in the operations and training facility for the Alachua County Supervisor of Elections Office. An employee assigned to this classification performs a variety of standard technical tasks relating to the configuration, deployment, and maintenance of voting equipment and supplies throughout Alachua County. Work is performed under the direction of a higher level supervisor and is reviewed through conferences, reports and observation of results obtained.

  • Works directly with voting equipment performing configuration, diagnostics, and maintenance following specific step by step instructions; Performs basic repairs.
  • Performs site surveys at each polling place facility.
  • Stocks equipment, supplies, booths, and ballots for each polling place.
  • Transports materials to polling locations throughout Alachua County.
  • Drives a county vehicle to perform required duties.
  • Organizes and maintains Elections Operations Center.
  • Scan documents, complete information of forms, and data entry.
  • Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of election vehicles and keeping each vehicle fueled.
  • Performs related work as required.

  • Knowledge of the principles, software and equipment used in modern office clerical procedures.

  • Ability to collect data using industry standard software.
  • Ability to maintain detailed documentation and express one's self clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.
  • Ability to learn the methods, procedures, laws and best practices specific to the Supervisor of Elections.
  • Ability to push and/or pull fully loaded hand carts; ability to load and unload materials from carts and/or vehicles.
  • Ability to accurately and efficiently sort, distribute, and deliver equipment and materials.
  • Ability to safety operate a cargo van, box truck, and hydraulic lift.
