Elections Specialist

FLSA: non-exempt
Pay: $18/hr

Job Summary

This position is responsible for the preparation, operation, maintenance, security, and deployment of election systems, voting equipment, election supplies, and related election administration functions. The Elections Specialist serves as a key member of the elections team and assists with election operations, voter services, training, logistics, and Election Day support.

Essential Functions
  • Maintains voting equipment and supplies in accordance with applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with federal and state election requirements and Board policies.
  • Prepares, tests, deploys, retrieves, and secures voting equipment for all elections.
  • Performs Logic & Accuracy testing on BMDs (ICX), Scanners (ICP), Poll Pads, and related election technology.
  • Operates and maintains the Election Management System (EMS) and related election systems.
  • Assists with election database preparation, ballot programming, ballot proofing, and election setup.
  • Troubleshoots voting equipment, election technology, and software issues.
  • Provides technical support to polling places during Early Voting and Election Day.
  • Serves as Election Day field support technician and responds to polling place emergencies and equipment failures.
  • Assists with election night operations, tabulation, audits, recounts, canvassing, and certification activities.
  • Maintains inventory of election equipment and supplies and prepares reports identifying procurement needs.
  • Coordinates preparation, delivery, retrieval, and storage of polling place supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains chain of custody and security of election equipment, ballots, memory devices, and election records.
  • Assists with absentee ballot processing, advance voting operations, and voter registration activities.
  • Conducts public demonstrations of voting equipment and voter outreach activities.
  • Develops and conducts poll worker training programs and instructional materials.
  • Assists with recruitment, scheduling, and support of poll workers and temporary election staff.
  • Coordinates election activities with polling place facilities, government agencies, vendors, and community organizations.
  • Maintains warehouse organization and storage of election equipment and supplies.
  • Assists in all areas of the Elections and Voter Registration Office as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of election administration principles and procedures.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple election projects simultaneously under strict deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office, databases, and election-related software.
  • Ability to train poll workers and make presentations to large groups.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical equipment and explain technical concepts in simple language.
  • Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information.
  • Knowledge of inventory management, logistics, and chain-of-custody procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret election laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with voters, elected officials, poll workers, and county staff.
  • Ability to read maps and understand precinct and district boundaries.
Working Conditions

Work is performed in both office and warehouse environments. The position requires evening, weekend, and holiday work during election periods. Frequent travel throughout Ware County may be required. The employee must be able to lift and move election equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and work extended hours during elections.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Georgia Driver’s License.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to learn election management software and voting equipment systems.
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree or higher.
  • Previous election administration experience.
  • Technical troubleshooting experience.
  • Government, military, logistics, records management, public administration, or IT experience.
  • Experience conducting training or public presentations.
