Job summary

North Carolina A&T State University is seeking a Temporary EHS Technician to operate and maintain the campus life safety systems, including fire alarms, sprinklers, extinguishers, and hood systems. This role also conducts building inspections and monitors new construction for safety compliance.

The role requires clear communication of safety regulations, responsible completion of duties, and the ability to coordinate with faculty, staff and external agencies.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent with demonstrated competencies to perform the work.
• Bachelor's Degree in a safety-related discipline, or a combination of education and safety-related experience.
• Three (3) years of experience working with fire alarms and life safety systems (preferred).

Position Overview

This position is primarily responsible to operate, maintain, coordinate the repair and upgrade of the University's fire alarms, sprinkler, fire extinguishers, life safety and hood systems. This position also performs building inspections and construction monitoring of all new and renovated building construction on campus.

The position must effectively communicate regulations in a concise and accurate manner, completes duties in a responsible manner, establishes and recommends procedural changes to ensure safety standards and methods are applied, and determines corrective actions when unsafe conditions are identified. This position works with a diverse group including faculty, staff, students, the public as well as external agency representative and must manage sensitive matters in a professional manner.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit: The purpose of the Environmental Health and Safety Office is to provide a variety of Environmental Health and Safety services to all administrative units, student programs and all academic schools and departments. Services include: risk assessment (hazard analysis, risk identification, loss control safety measures for the University), response to on-campus calls regarding fire alarm malfunctions, installation and service, and to reduce the actual loss of labor and equipment resources in the administration of services.

Work Hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM; Monday - Friday
