The Oklahoma Historical Society, Research Division, is seeking candidates for a temporary 999 Digitization Technicians position. This entry-level role reports to the collections staff and focuses on digitizing historical records. Strong communication and multitasking are essential as the project serves researchers via telephone, mail, and in-house inquiries.

Recruitment will run for 14 working days. Work is 19 hours per week, and the position is temporary.

Qualifications

  • Position requires experience with handling archival collections
  • Knowledge of Dublin Core and DACS metadata standards is a plus
  • Knowledge of current digitization standards is a plus
  • Position requires the candidate to be comfortable with computers especially Excel, Word, Teams, and Microsoft 365
  • Must be able to work independently and with a group
  • Handwriting must be legible
  • Must be able to work 19 hours per week
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs

  • Digitizing all materials
  • Creating descriptions of materials
  • Removing metal items such as staples and paperclips
  • Re-housing materials into archival folders, boxes, sleeves etc.
  • Entering metadata on the Gateway to Oklahoma History to be used by the public
  • Writing reports once a quarter regarding progress of the project

Job Description

The Oklahoma Historical Society, Research Division is seeking candidates for a temporary 999 Digitization Technicians. This is an entry level position; this position will work directly under the supervision of the collections staff. Primary duties will include digitizing historical records. Excellent verbal and written communication are essential for this position, as well as the ability to multitask. Applications sought will be for immediate hire. Recruitment announcement will be open for a period of 14 working days. The Oklahoma Historical Society Research Division provides genealogical and historical research services to library users. As a National Archives affiliate, founded in 1893, our collections offer many unique items related to Oklahoma history from pre-statehood and beyond. We are a public service division dedicated to providing quality customer experience. While assisting researchers, we provide a multitude of services to patrons via telephone requests, correspondence, and in-house. In addition to fulfilling customer needs, we collaborate as a team seeking opportunities to collect, preserve and share the history of Oklahoma and its people.
