Job summary

Oklahoma Department of Transportation is seeking a Photogrammetrist to perform professional photogrammetric mapping, drafting, and design tasks within the Survey division in Oklahoma City. The role develops plans, maps, projects, and reports for transportation projects.

The position requires an associate’s degree in relevant geospatial fields and experience with CADD systems. Pre-employment checks may be required and basic background screening is standard.

Qualifications

• Bachelor/associate level education in cartography, geospatial fields, or surveying.
• Experience with photogrammetry and CADD systems is preferred.
• Knowledge of terrain models, orthomosaics, and digital terrain models is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Prepare contracts for aerial photographic services for engineering projects.
• Operate digital scanning and stereoplotter workstations for planimetric imagery.
• Perform block triangulation adjustments using ground control data and transfer results to CADD users.
• Develop terrain model files, contour files, and cross-section earthwork data sets.
• Develop mapping, drafting and survey standards for CADD systems and project files.
• Prepare complex civil engineering and transportation-related documents with CADD.
• Maintain digital file systems, terrain models, and aerial photo archives.
• Provide training and guidance on digital analytical computer workstations and transportation management operations.
• Supervise staff in archiving department photographic maps and reports.

Basic Purpose Positions in this job family are responsible for performing professional photogrammetric computer aided mapping, drafting and design tasks, and transportation management operations work developing departmental plans, maps, projects and reports.

Typical Functions

• Prepares contracts to vendors for obtaining precision aerial photographic services for engineering roadway, bridge and planning projects requiring considerable background in aerial photography tasks and computer aided drafting and design (CADD) operations.
• Operates digital scanning computers and first order digital analytical computer-stereoplotter workstations to transform aerial photography into planimetric aerial imagery models and digital terrain models.
• Performs block triangulation adjustments of aerial data based on ground survey control data; analyzes the results through archiving and transfer of data to CADD system users and/or printers.
• Prepares and/or develops terrain model files, planimetric feature files, contour files, and cross-section earthwork data sets.
• Develops and implements mapping, drafting and survey standards, policies and procedures for photogrammetric CADD systems for the management of project files relating to design, standardization, modification, archival and system transfer and plotting of files.
• Prepares and designs complex civil engineering, planning and legal documents for transportation projects, studies, reports and evidentiary needs which may include right-of-way, earthwork, drainage, hydrology, geometrics or details utilizing the CADD system platform.
• Responsible for CADD operation maintenance of digital files, digital terrain models, planimetric files, topographic files, earthwork cross-section files, back-up data files and the disposition and reproduction of those files and of aerial photographs.
• Provides training, guidance, expertise and assistance in digital analytical computer workstations, operations and transportation management operations to professional and/or technical staff.
• Supervises staff in the preparation or archiving of department photographic maps, projects and reports.

Level Descriptor

Levels are distinguished based on the complexity of assigned duties, the level of expertise required for completion of work assignments, and the responsibility assigned for the supervision of others. This is the basic level where incumbents perform entry-level work in a training status using standardized procedures to assist and/or perform tasks in photogrammetry. Employees at this level are closely supervised and work assignments are well detailed.

Education and Experience

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of an associate’s degree in cartography, civil engineering, geography, photogrammetry, or surveying; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of experience in CADD, cartography, technical engineering, photogrammetry, or surveying for each year of the required education.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of technical surveying; of mathematics; of engineering theory; of analytical values; of photogrammetric mapping; and of computer applications. Skill is required in visualizing objects in three dimensions and in small motor dexterity. Ability is required to retrieve photogrammetric data.

Additional Job Duties

Produce high-accuracy engineering design-grade terrain models, orthomosaics, and topographic maps. This role ensures all remote sensing data meets strict state highway design and aerial survey specifications.
