Job summary

Community Servings in Jamaica Plain, MA is seeking a Temporary Cook to support our medically tailored meal program. You will prepare ingredients, operate in a fast-paced kitchen, and work with volunteers to ensure meals are prepared safely and on time.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent; culinary training is a plus; 1–3 years in a kitchen; ServSafe preferred or required after hire. This temporary role offers exposure to a mission-driven kitchen and community impact.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Culinary training or coursework in food preparation, nutrition, or related field is a plus.
  • 1–3 years in a commercial kitchen, institutional food service, restaurant, healthcare, or nonprofit setting preferred.
  • ServSafe Food Handler certification preferred or must be obtained after hire.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare ingredients for recipes.
  • Engage with and direct volunteers in a task.
  • Communicate progress and needs to supervisor and team.
  • Take responsibility for assigned tasks and complete them on time.

Community Servings' mission is to actively engage the community to provide medically tailored, nutritious, scratch-made meals and medically tailored groceries to chronically and critically ill individuals and their families. In addition, we are committed to prioritizing racial and economic justice and health equity in all our programs and business practices.

We are a dynamic and fast-growing agency at the forefront of the "Food is Medicine" field, providing over 1M medically tailored meals annually to clients and their families experiencing illness and food insecurity in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. In addition, our work strongly focuses on supporting the regional local food system, delivering high-quality nutrition education to the community, and hosting an on-site food-service workforce development program. Over the past 35 years, the agency has provided 15M+ free, scratch-made meals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Education/Experience

  • One to three years of experience in a commercial kitchen, institutional food service, restaurant, healthcare, or nonprofit food production environment preferred.
  • ServSafe Food Handler certification preferred or must be obtained within a specified period after hire.
