Job summary

Safeway seeks an Assistant Grocery Department Manager to lead daily operations, drive sales, and uphold in-stock levels and pricing accuracy. You will mentor associates, ensure displays meet standards, and support promotional sets and seasonal transitions.

Strong leadership, merchandising skills, and customer service focus are required to succeed in this fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Evening/weekend availability is expected.

Qualifications

Main Responsibilities

• Help oversee daily operations of the Grocery Department with a focus on customer service, sales, and department readiness
• Deliver friendly, prompt, and knowledgeable customer service and resolve customer concerns professionally
• Ensure shelves, displays, and aisles are clean, full, front‑faced, and merchandised to company standards
• Assist with executing planograms, promotional sets, seasonal transitions, and weekly ad merchandising
• Assist with managing orders, inventory levels, product rotation, and backroom organization
• Assist with monitoring shrink and implementing procedures to reduce waste and loss
• Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, safety, and operational standards
• Assist with training, coaching, scheduling, and developing grocery associates while fostering a positive team environment
• Perform Grocery Department duties as needed and assume responsibility for department operations in the absence of the Grocery Manager
