Position Purpose

The Assistant Grocery Manager supports the Grocery Manager in overseeing daily department operations, driving sales, maintaining inventory levels, ensuring merchandising standards, and providing exceptional customer service. This position helps lead and develop associates while ensuring the grocery department operates efficiently, safely, and in compliance with company policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities Department Operations

• Assist in managing day-to-day operations of the Grocery Department.
• Ensure shelves are properly stocked, merchandised, and maintained according to company standards.
• Support inventory management processes, including ordering, receiving, and product rotation.
• Monitor product quality, pricing accuracy, and department presentation.
• Help coordinate workload and prioritize tasks to maintain department productivity.

Leadership & Team Development

• Provide leadership and direction to grocery associates during assigned shifts.
• Assist with training, coaching, and developing department associates.
• Support the Grocery Manager in creating a positive and productive work environment.
• Monitor associate performance and provide feedback to improve results.
• Promote teamwork, safety, and customer service excellence.

Customer Service

• Deliver outstanding customer service and address customer concerns promptly.
• Ensure associates provide friendly, helpful, and professional service.
• Assist customers with product inquiries and special requests.
• Support implementation of customer-focused initiatives and programs.
• Maintain a clean and welcoming shopping environment.

Inventory & Merchandising

• Assist with ordering and inventory control to maintain appropriate stock levels.
• Monitor out-of-stock conditions and take corrective action.
• Ensure promotional displays, seasonal programs, and merchandising plans are executed correctly.
• Support shrink reduction efforts through proper inventory practices and product handling.
• Verify proper product rotation and freshness standards are maintained.

Compliance & Safety

• Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety standards, and safety procedures.
• Monitor department cleanliness and sanitation requirements.
• Support loss prevention initiatives and proper asset protection practices.
• Assist with audit preparation and corrective actions.
• Ensure safe use of equipment and adherence to workplace safety standards.

Financial Performance

• Support achievement of sales, labor, and gross profit targets.
• Monitor department expenses and productivity levels.
• Assist in controlling shrink and reducing unnecessary costs.
• Review department performance with the Grocery Manager and identify improvement opportunities.
• Help drive department growth through strong execution and merchandising.
