Job Title

Temp: Support Assistant (TSA) – Lindale Middle, Linthicum Heights, Maryland.

Job Summary

Under the direction of the supervising teacher or administrator, Temporary Support Assistants assist teachers with the physical, emotional, behavioral, and instructional needs of students at the Preschool/PreK, elementary, and secondary grade levels.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Participate in routine supervision of students throughout the school day within the school building and/or worksite/community environments, including assisting on/off buses, lifting and pushing students in equipment, and monitoring entry and exit to ensure correct locations.
• Assist students with social behavior, personal hygiene, and self‑help skills, including toileting, feeding, and grooming during the school day and off‑site locations.
• Support students during instruction and curriculum tasks in one‑on‑one or small groups, implementing instructional plans and reinforcing subject matter introduced by the teacher.
• Observe and manage student behavior in classroom, lunch areas, playground, and other learning environments according to approved procedures.
• Gather and report data on student performance relative to instructional and behavioral goals for the supervising teacher.
• Support students with social, emotional, and behavioral concerns, implementing behavior strategies and supports.
• Follow AACPS policies and procedures while assisting students and staff in the building and off‑site training or community‑based settings.
• Participate in professional development, attending workshops and in‑service training on specialized care needs, seizures, disruptive behavior, and related topics as provided by the Board of Education.
• Perform other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate.
• Formal academic courses or training in child development with specific applications to special education preferred.
• No prior experience required.
• Ability to exercise patience and work with students who have physical, mental, emotional, or multiple disabilities.
• Regular, punctual attendance essential for in‑person service provision.
• Ability to employ a variety of teaching styles to meet diverse learner needs.
• Effective communication skills with diverse populations.
• Proficiency with business technology applications (e.g., video/web conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite), preferred.

Licenses & Certifications

• Hold or be eligible for a Maryland Driver’s License (Class C Non‑Commercial).
• Daily access to reliable transportation.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

• Standing < 33%, Walking 33‑66%, Sitting 33‑66%, Keyboarding < 33%, Talking 33‑66%, Hearing 33‑66%, Driving 33‑66% of time.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Work in indoor school environments over 2/3 of the time; moderate noise level expected.

Travel Requirements

• Up to 20% daily travel within the county to assist at other schools, parks, and libraries.
