Job summary

Chicago Public Schools seeks a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support instruction and reinforce learning for students with a variety of disabilities under the supervision of a licensed Special Education teacher. The role includes one-on-one tutoring, assistance with daily living tasks, and helping with mobility tools and classroom equipment.

Applicants should hold a valid TASN paraprofessional license or be eligible to obtain one; CPR training is encouraged.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid TASN (NCLB) paraprofessional license from ISBE.
• Completion of at least 60 semester hours of college credit or paraprofessional exam (Work Keys or Parapro).
• Good knowledge of characteristics of students with various disabilities.
• Ability to work with students birth to 21 years old; follow instructions; complete basic written reports.
• CPR training is highly desirable; if not completed, training may be required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in instruction and reinforce learning for students with disabilities in elementary and high schools.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring and personal hygiene services for students with severe disabilities.
• Assist with mobility and positioning equipment in classrooms.
• Assist in daily living skills for independence and self-sufficiency.
• Record behavior, accompany on field trips, and participate in trainings.
