Job summary

The City of El Paso is seeking a skilled fleet mechanic to perform repair, maintenance and upkeep on a variety of City vehicles and equipment. Under general supervision, you will diagnose, overhaul and service gasoline, diesel and alternative-fueled engines based on work orders and safety standards.

Responsibilities include identifying parts, sourcing materials, testing repairs, and maintaining detailed records.

Qualifications

High School Diploma, GED or higher and two years of journey level automotive or diesel mechanic experience.
Must be able to obtain ASE certification within six months of appointment.
Driver's license as required (Texas Class C; CDL may be required for some positions).
EPA certification for refrigerant recycling may be required within six months.

Responsibilities

Repair, recondition and maintain City fleet vehicles and equipment with gasoline, diesel or alternative fuels.
Assess, diagnose, and perform overhaul repairs based on work orders received.
Identify parts, supplies and materials; remove, inspect, install and replace components as needed.
Test and validate repairs; perform preventative maintenance and ensure compliance with standards.
Update records and communicate with officials, contractors, and the public as needed.
