Job summary

Steve Madden is seeking a Temporary Apparel Designer for a 2–3 month assignment in New York City, onsite. You will create and maintain Excel-based tech packs, articulate design intent via technical specs, and sketch flats in Illustrator while collaborating with the Design team to support quick product development.

The ideal candidate has 5–7 years in contemporary RTW, strong Excel tech pack skills, and expert Illustrator proficiency to ensure accurate construction callouts under tight deadlines.

Qualifications

• 5–7 years of apparel design experience in contemporary RTW
• Experience designing dresses and women’s ready-to-wear
• Strong proficiency in Excel-based tech packs
• Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator
• Ability to create clean, accurate technical flats
• Strong understanding of garment construction, fit, fabrication, and technical specifications
• Ability to spec garments with detailed construction callouts
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills

Responsibilities

• Create, update, and maintain detailed Excel tech packs for apparel styles
• Develop clear and accurate technical specifications, measurements, and garment construction callouts
• Sketch accurate garment flats using Adobe Illustrator
• Occasionally update and maintain seasonal linesheets
• Partner with the Design team to communicate technical details to vendors
• Review and update tech packs based on samples and development changes
• Support the Design team with additional product development needs
• Manage multiple styles and deadlines with accuracy
