Job summary

Steve Madden is seeking a Senior Technical Designer for our Wholesale Apparel team in NYC. This hands-on role partners with Designers and overseas factories to translate concepts into detailed technical specifications, ensuring fit, construction, and quality.

You’ll own the technical design process from development through pre-production, lead fit sessions on live models, and collaborate with Design, Production, Merchandising, and factories globally.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in Technical Design within fashion/apparel.
• Deep expertise in garment construction, fit, pattern-making, tailoring.
• Eye for fit, styling, proportion, and production-ready execution.
• Able to translate designer vision into technical specs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with cross-functional partners.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical design lifecycle from development to pre-production.
• Translate concepts into detailed tech spec packages.
• Lead fit sessions, evaluate balance and construction, provide comments.
• Analyze samples for specs, workmanship, and manufacturability.
• Collaborate with overseas factories and partners with clear feedback.
• Proactively resolve technical, production, and costing challenges.
• Manage multiple styles and deadlines while staying on track.
• Build partnerships with Design, Production, Merchandising, and factories.
• Communicate daily with overseas manufacturing partners.
• Contribute to special projects as needed.
