Job Description: Teller
Upholds the Credit Union’s mission of "We do the right thing one member, one employee, and one experience at a time to strengthen the communities we serve" by assisting members in person, through drive-ups, or by telephone, providing a broad range of Credit Union information. Receives and processes transactions, requests, and concerns with enthusiastic service and sales orientation, balancing cash drawer and daily work.
Responsibilities include:
- Assisting members in person, through drive-ups, and by telephone using an online teller terminal for deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, transfers, check cashing, coin processing, and account information.
- Processing special member requests such as account research, stop payments, direct deposit, ACH, payroll deduction, wire transfers, and safe deposit boxes.
- Building financial relationships through a consultative approach, discussing promotions, and referring members to specialists, including scheduling appointments.
- Educating members about Home Banking, E-Services, and promoting Credit Union products and services tailored to members’ needs.
- Balancing cash drawer and transactions daily, seeking error recovery, and communicating errors to members.
- Opening and closing the branch following procedures and policies.
- Performing miscellaneous duties like mail transactions, night deposits, deposit verifications, filing, and account updates.
- Staying updated on procedural and policy changes via bulletins, memos, and staff meetings.
- Assuming additional branch responsibilities such as safe deposit billing, vault balancing, and supply ordering.
- Assisting other departments or branches as needed and training new employees.
- Cross-training in Teller Supervisor functions and Member Services, providing backup as needed.
Qualifications include:
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend detailed instructions and memos; basic math skills acquired through high school education.
- Proficiency with online computer terminals, coin processing, and adding machines, typically gained through basic courses or 1-3 months on-the-job experience.
- Knowledge of products, services, and procedures necessary for transaction processing, usually gained through 3-6 months of on-the-job experience, including at least one with the Credit Union.
- High attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to concentrate for most of the workday.
- Analytical skills to resolve member issues and correct errors.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and cross-sell services in high-stress situations.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Office setting with moderate noise levels.
- Minimal lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Frequent use of office equipment including telephone, copier, fax, and computer.
- Prolonged sitting or standing, with mental and visual concentration.
