The Maryland Department of Planning seeks a Director for the Central Maryland Planning Region to lead the Southern Maryland and Baltimore Metro Regional Planners, coordinate local engagement, and supervise staff. This role also serves as lead for the Planning Best Practices program and liaises with municipal and county planning departments across multiple counties.

You will oversee resources, advance state planning goals, review local plans for consistency with laws, and support regional growth

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree with 30 credit hours in Planning, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Architecture, Public Administration, Engineering, Geography, Landscape Architecture, Economics, Public Finance, Political Science, Sociology, Regional Science, Information Technology or Urban Affairs.
• Experience: Three years of experience in planning projects related to land, water, transportation, community, or natural resources and conducting research on trends.
• Notes: Substitutions to education for experience allowed (master’s or doctorate) and military service considerations.

Responsabilités

• Lead the Central Maryland Region and supervise two full-time regional planners.
• Serve as the lead for the Planning Best Practices Program and coordinate with municipal and county planning departments.
• Review and approve local government plans and ordinances to ensure alignment with state planning goals and laws.
• Allocate regional staff resources and collaborate with other MD Department of Planning divisions to meet project demands.
