Job summary

St. Charles Campus of Good Samaritan University Hospital, part of Catholic Health, seeks a Telephone Operator to serve as the campus' primary public contact, handling computerized operator duties and routing calls.

This full-time role includes assisting when reception is unavailable, supporting night shifts, handling codes and emergencies, and contributing to a patient-centered, service-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate the hospital's computerized telephone system and route calls to the correct departments.
• Greet callers, handle inquiries, and assist as needed when reception is unavailable.
• Support night shift operations and assist with the Physician's Answering Service.
• Announce codes, notify appropriate personnel, and participate in drills as required.
• Enter shift changes and coordinate with other units as needed.

Job Details

The Telephone Operator acts as primary public contact in performance of computerized telephone operator duties.

Responsibilities

• Employee aids in the orientation and training of new employees
• The night operator is also responsible for covering the console and the Physician's Answering Service. The incumbent performs such other related duties and tasks as may be assigned or required.
• Operator's duties include computerized console and routing all calls to proper departments, any phone inquiries concerning the hospital, receiving complaints and referrals to the appropriate department. Reports phone equipment trouble to the Help Desk
• Enter change in shift for Respiratory, Phys. Assist and Nursing Supervision, etc.
• Contact interns and residents for outside calls, units and codes.
• Announce codes properly, notify fire department, police and appropriate hospital personnel, disaster drill and bomb threat drill.
• Assists when receptionist is not available.
• Acts appropriately when teamwork is necessary, assists TAS operator during busy periods.
• Must be articulate, courteous and accurate when answering phones.
• Night operator responsible to handle TAS and operator tasks.
• Attends continuing education programs on-site and off-site

Salary Range

USD $22.00 - USD $2,600.00 /Hr.

The salary range or rate listed does not include any bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job and it does not include the value of benefits.
