Job summary

Northwell Health in Bay Shore, NY seeks a Telemetry Technician to support the telemetry unit by monitoring ECG data and assisting with patient care. You will observe monitors, document rhythms, and alert nursing staff to changes in rate, rhythm and dysrhythmias.

Applicants should have a High School Diploma and NYSDOH AEMT-CC or EMT-P certification preferred, with about one year of related hospital or pre-hospital experience, and strong teamwork skills in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
• Currently certified by NYS Department of Health as an AEMT-CC or EMT-P, preferred.
• One year of related EMT/telemetry or hospital experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Sets-up and operates telemetry and ECG equipment.
• Observes cardiac monitor tracing of assigned patients on telemetry.
• Monitors ECG monitoring bank.
• Places patient on cardiac monitoring using proper skin preparation.
• Obtains clear, readable six second strips.
• Ensures monitor alarms are on when patient is on unit.
• Records measurements of heart rate, PR interval and QR intervals on rhythm strips.
• Documents rhythms with measurements on worksheet of all patients when needed.
• Identifies NSR, SB, ST Asytole, PACs, SVT, A-Fib, A-Flutter, PVCs, VT, Bigeminy, Trigeminy.
• Notifies nurse of rhythm and rate changes; provides initial interpretation within 30 minutes of connect.
• Implements and reviews telemetry orders as requested by nurse.
• Participates in orientation of new telemetry technicians.
• Assists with admissions/discharges and maintains equipment/supplies.
