Job summary

TM Floyd & Company is seeking a Telecommunications Technician for an onsite role in Columbia, SC. The role requires installing and wiring routers and switches, provisioning transport equipment for MPLS, and performing system upgrades and maintenance.

You will support CUCM/VoIP, fiber/DWDM data circuits, and various cabling types while ensuring safety and compliance. Travel may be required; hourly pay ranges from $40 to $50 per hour with overtime possibilities.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in telecommunications, 2+ years in a Telco Central Office environment.
• Experience with fiber circuits, MPLS, LAN/WAN data circuits.
• Proficient in fiber terminations and cabling.
• Experience with CUCM and enterprise VoIP support.
• Must pass safety and environmental standards.
• Valid driver's license and ability to lift 45 pounds.
• Willing to travel with overnight stays.

Responsibilities

Job description

We are seeking a Telecommunications Technician for an onsite role in Columbia, SC.

• No C2C or Visa Transfer
• Must be in or near Columbia, SC

As a Telecommunications Technician, you will apply your basic knowledge of all areas of telecommunications and perform maintenance on telecommunications equipment. Your duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Installing and wiring routers/switches, coordinating configuration, and troubleshooting
• Installing and provisioning transport equipment and Ethernet services supporting MPLS network
• Testing, deploying, and documenting supporting system upgrades, patches, and maintenance window activities
• Responding to system and service outages as well as storm/disaster support
• Participating in maintenance window cutovers and system grooms
• Installing and wiring routers/switches, along with coordinating with multiple groups for configuration and troubleshooting
• Identifying and utilizing the proper resources to develop solutions and devise new approaches to problems encountered in work assignments

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Experience

• 3+ years in telecommunications and a minimum of 2 years of experience working in a Telco Central Office environment
• Working knowledge of fiber circuits, MPLS, and other LAN/WAN data circuits
• Skilled in the termination and troubleshooting of various cabling types, including fiber
• Knowledge of fiber terminations, data circuits, and 48V and 135Vdc power plants
• Experience with DC plant systems, LAN and wireless testing, fiber optic test equipment, and various cabling types
• Familiarity with cable identification, terminating cables, and Channel Banks
• Experience with Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM), including provisioning and configuring IP phones, performing adds, moves, and changes (MACs), troubleshooting voice and telephony-related issues, and supporting enterprise VoIP services (or willing to learn)
• Prioritize safety, environmental consciousness, and attention to detail
• Physical ability to lift 45 pounds and to distinguish colors
• Valid driver's license
• Electrical/Electronic background and SCADA knowledge are a plus
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing
• Experienced using Microsoft Office Suite, Visio, and spreadsheets
• Proficient with Ethernet circuits and DWDM systems
• Available for call outs, weekend work, occasional overtime, and air travel
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently
• Self-starter with a focus on safe work habits and behaviors
• Ability to keep work sites clean and organized

May require some travel with overnight stays. May require additional hours, holiday, and/or weekend work for project completion or to meet deadlines.

The hourly range for this position is $40 - $50/hr.
