Position Overview

Bowhead seeks a Telecommunications Mechanic I for an upcoming proposal to provide Base Telecom Support at Puget Sound, WA. The role involves telecommunications operations and maintenance (O&M), supporting C4I operations and exercises with secure and reliable voice and data services.

Responsibilities

1. Install, maintain, and repair outside telecommunications infrastructure, including underground and aerial copper/fiber cabling, backbone and distribution systems, conduits, vaults, ducts, and pedestals.
2. Perform fiber and copper splicing (fusion and mechanical), OTDR and power meter testing, fault isolation, and emergency restoration.
3. Conduct routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and document cabling routes, splicing records, and test results.
4. Collaborate with engineers, ISP technicians, and site leadership for infrastructure upgrades and repairs.
5. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1. High school diploma or GED; technical trade certification in telecom, electronics, or fiber optics is highly desirable.
2. 3–5 years of hands-on experience in OSP cabling, preferably in government or large enterprise networks.
3. Fiber Optic Installer or Technician Certification (e.g., ETA or FOA).
4. Confined Space Entry and Fall Protection training.
5. Proficiency with OTDR, fusion splicer, power meters, cable locating equipment, and tone generators.
6. Knowledge of industry standards (BICSI, TIA/EIA) and military base safety protocols.
7. Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and route maps.
8. Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
9. Effective communication skills and strong interpersonal judgment.

Physical and Security Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand and walk for prolonged periods, and perform twisting, bending, and squatting.
• Must hold a Secret security clearance; US Citizenship required.
