Job summary

James Madison University (JMU) seeks a Telecommunications Infrastructure Technician to install, maintain and test campus telecommunications infrastructure across university facilities. The role requires interpreting utility records, locating underground facilities, and ensuring safe, compliant operations.

The technician will respond to locate requests, support construction and damage prevention, and document all work with precise records.

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• Knowledge of telecommunications cabling systems including fiber optic, Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A.
• Understanding of telecommunications color codes, termination and testing procedures.
• Ability to install, maintain and upgrade CATV, network and telecommunications infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Install, troubleshoot, test, and maintain telecommunications cabling and equipment.
• Accurately document completed work and ensure proper labeling of cables and infrastructure.
• Read and interpret floor plans, utility maps, GIS data, and technical specs to locate facilities.
• Represent James Madison University professionally with campus customers and contractors.
