Job summary

M.C. Dean, Inc. in the Washington, DC area is seeking a Telecommunications Technician 2 to lead installation of commercial communications systems. You will plan, layout, and install cabling, terminate copper and fiber, and ensure compliance with plans, codes, and standards.

This role emphasizes safety, mentorship of apprentices, and hands-on problem solving across cat5e/6, fiber, patch panels, and racks. A strong background in structured cable plant and willingness to train others is essential.

Qualifications

• 4+ years in commercial communications with HS diploma or GED, or 3+ years with an Associate degree.
• Valid driver's license required to operate equipment.
• Experience with room build-out, Cat6, Cat6A and fiber termination; interpret and maintain drawings.
• Familiar with BlueBeam, Fluke Versiv, MS Office.
• Knowledge of BICSI guidelines for install and termination procedures.

Responsibilities

• Install video and data cabling (Cat5E, Cat6) and fiber.
• Terminate and test horizontal copper (Cat5/6) and fiber.
• Mount patch panels, cables, and racks; install interior conduit and access hardware.
• Mentor apprentices and assist in outside plant installations.
• Read plans and specifications; label and test cables; maintain clean work area.
