Telecom Power Engineer | Hybrid in Raleigh, NC (3-days onsite) | Longterm
Optomi, in partnership with a leading utility and telecommunications organization, is seeking an experienced Telecom Power Engineer to join their team in Raleigh, NC! This is a senior-level engineering and delivery role focused on the design, implementation, testing, and documentation of advanced AC and DC power systems supporting mission-critical telecom infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have deep experience with telecom power environments, including DC plant systems, UPS configurations, AC/DC distribution, grounding practices, and environmental/alarm monitoring systems. A working understanding of TCP/IP networking fundamentals, including routing and switching, is also required. Exposure to automation, scripting, and Agile-based delivery environments is highly desirable. The right individual will be self-directed, proactive, and comfortable operating with minimal supervision while contributing within small, collaborative engineering teams.
Experience of the right candidate
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related discipline with 6+ years of relevant power engineering experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Strong hands-on background with 240/120V AC systems as well as 48V and 130V DC power systems
- Practical experience with UPS and DC plant platforms such as Eltek, Vertiv, Powerware, and Delta
- Knowledge of generator backup systems and grounding standards for telecom shelters and tower environments
- Foundational understanding of TCP/IP networking concepts, including routing and switching
- Experience creating engineering documentation such as schematics, installation packages, diagrams, and equipment lists
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, SharePoint, Teams)
- Familiarity with tools and processes such as ServiceNow, Agile methodologies, Kanban, Jira, and documentation systems like Fusion or CASTPro
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively across technical teams and stakeholders
Responsibilities of the right candidate
- Engineer and design AC and DC power solutions supporting telecom infrastructure systems
- Build detailed engineering job packages (EJPs), including material lists, installation steps, network/topology diagrams, shelf layouts, and supporting technical documentation
- Develop cost estimates, perform basic economic analyses, and prepare work orders for planned deployments and upgrades
- Provide advanced (Tier 3) technical support to NOC, field installation, and maintenance teams
- Collaborate with engineering peers to coordinate and execute infrastructure projects from planning through implementation
- Ensure all designs meet performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness requirements aligned with business needs
- Stay current with evolving telecom power technologies, tools, and industry standards
- Support efforts to improve troubleshooting processes for Tier 1 and Tier 2 support teams
- Participate in Agile-based engineering workflows to support project planning and delivery cycles
