Metropolitan Transportation Authority is seeking a Telecommunications Associate I–IV (Data) to provide 24/7 support of the transit fiber optic network, including installation, maintenance, and commissioning. The role involves configuring and administering NYCT transmission systems, liaising with vendors, and assisting in project turn-ups and staff training within the Electronics Maintenance Division.

Responsibilities

  • Under general supervision, the selected candidate will be responsible for installation, upgrade, configuration, maintenance, and administration of NYCT’s telecommunications network and transmission systems.
  • Maintenance typically includes fault identification, analysis, and resolution.
  • Network technologies and equipment include asynchronous fiber optics, TDM, SONET, ATM, DWDM, and COE.
  • Ethernet and IP services, and DC Power plants with battery support.
  • The candidate may be required to configure and maintain network transmission equipment, liaise with support and material vendors, contractors, and in-house maintenance groups, and provide technical support and training to other NYCT staff, manage projects, review bulletins, drawings, and contract specifications and oversee implementation and turn-up of communications systems.
