Job summary

MasTec Communications Group in Michigan is seeking a Skilled Laborer/Groundman to support aerial and underground telecom construction projects, including FTTH installs, conduit and trenching, HDD, and pole work. This role requires safety-mindedness and a hands-on problem-solving approach in outdoor environments.

You will follow foreman directions, assist with material handling, monitor excavation for utility strikes, and operate or assist with trucks and equipment.

Qualifications

• Valid driver\'s license required; ability to obtain a DOT medical card.
• CDL highly preferred; MVR review and safe driving record required.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 70 lbs.
• Ability to read maps, drawings, diagrams, and schematics.
• Climbing certification or related experience preferred (pole work).
• Overhead or underground outside plant fiber construction experience preferred.
• Knowledge of overhead materials, clearance codes, and network design preferred.
• Flagger certification preferred or ability to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Follow directions from the Foreman or Supervisor to complete field labor tasks safely and efficiently
• Assist with shoveling, brush clearing, site cleanup, landscaping, vehicle washing, loading/unloading, and material handling
• Monitor excavation work to prevent utility strikes
• Follow safety procedures and use required protective equipment
• Operate or assist with trucks, trailers, and equipment, as trained
• Handle inventory, tools, and equipment safely and follow jobsite procedures
• Climb poles safely when trained and certified
