American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking a Telecommunications Consultant SG7 to support transport network operations on-site across multiple U.S. locations. The role includes installation, configuration, and performance analysis of fiber, microwave, and P.25 systems, with rotation on 24x7 on-call coverage and documentation upkeep in ServiceNow.

Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor's (or applicable Associate's with experience) and a valid driver's license. Occasional travel is required.

Job Summary

This position will directly support the enterprise network transport operations. Participates in the installation, configuration, and performance analysis of transport network technologies with a primary focus on operation and maintenance for transport networks to include; Fiber Optic Cable, DWDM, Ciena, Nokia, Ribbon, Icons, Microwave (Aviat), and P25 radio systems. Candidate should have a strong understanding of transport network and demonstrate the ability to analyze, troubleshoot, coordinate, and resolve complex issues and projects.

Job Description

What You’ll Do:

• Support AEP Fiber Optic, Microwave and P.25 800Mhz radio systems (Transport Systems).
• Shared 24x7x365 on-call with 6 other engineers
• Break/Fix support of AEP Transport network systems
• Remotely support project-based field change control work associated with deploying Fiber Optic, Microwave and P.25 radio systems
• Follow the AEP change management process and AEP standard for changing any configuration in the network including peer reviews on field transport impacting changes
• Documentation upkeep – ServiceNow Asset, Monitoring Systems, Process Docs, Timekeeping, Goal Performance, Status Reporting, Change Control, Project Task and time scheduling management/meetings

• Telecommunications Consultant SG7 Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, computer science, telecommunications, or related field of study Or Associate's degree in field mentioned above with 2 years of relevant work experience Or HS diploma/GED with 4 years of relevant work experience required.
