Job summary

The City of San Antonio’s Las Palmas Branch Library seeks a Librarian to provide full-scope library service for adults and/or children. You will advise the public, apply bibliographic control, and handle reference requests in a primarily office setting.

This position requires a Master’s in Library Science (ALA-accredited) or completion within six months, with no substitutions allowed. A flexible schedule including evenings and weekends is expected.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited university or within six months of hire.
• No substitution for education.

Responsibilities

• Assists the general public with information regarding library materials and equipment.
• Participates in library committee work.
• Maintains and selects library materials on the basis of established criteria and the needs of the users.
• Promotes use of the library by the community.
• Answers reference questions and performs readers' advisory services.
• Prepares and presents programs regarding library services and materials to various age groups.
• Maintains work records and prepares reports.
• Analyzes, evaluates, and selects materials.
• Prepares original cataloging copy for non-specialized materials.
• Solves routine classification and cataloging problems.
• Reconciles differences in bibliographic records.
• Trains staff in policies, procedures, and operation of various automated systems.
• Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
