Job summary

City of Brooklyn Park is seeking a Recreation Specialist to support teen programs for ages 12-17 at Zanewood Recreation Center. You will help implement programs, events, and field trips under the Teen Program Specialist.

The role requires engaging with youth, building partnerships with schools and community groups, and ensuring safety and inclusivity during activities, with some evening/weekend hours. Experience in youth recreation is valued; training and development are provided to enhance

Qualifications

• Ability to relate and interact with teens in a caring, professional manner.
• Strong relationship-building skills with teens and families from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to respond promptly and professionally to emergencies, conflicts and behavioral challenges.
• Skilled in communication and teamwork.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Willingness to work evenings, weekends and outdoor activities.
• Commitment to inclusive practices and equity.

Responsibilities

• Plan, lead and evaluate teen recreation programs including sports, arts and leadership activities.
• Actively engage with teens to create a welcoming space where youth feel valued.
• Ensure safety by following procedures and reporting concerns.
• Build relationships with schools, nonprofits and local leaders to create opportunities.
• Coordinate special events and pop-up teen activities.
• Recruit, register and retain teen participants through outreach and partnerships.
• Attend trainings and meetings to stay current on best practices in youth engagement.
