Job summary

The City of Brooklyn Center is seeking a Recreation Coordinator to support youth and adult sport programs, under the Recreation Manager, delivering communication, leadership, planning and program support.

Hours are Monday–Friday with some evenings and weekends. The role involves coordinating leagues and events, supervising staff and volunteers, and working with community partners to provide an inclusive, positive experience for participants.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in recreation, education, or closely related field
• Two years post-secondary education plus three years year-round recreation experience
• Two years post-secondary education plus five years seasonal recreation experience
• Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Word, and Excel
• Applicant must be able to stand, talk, write, hear, balance, run, sit, kneel, throw, and lift up to 25 lbs

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and oversee sports leagues, programs, tournaments, and events while promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, skill development, and an inclusive, positive recreational experience for all participants.
• Assist Recreation Managers/Supervisors to provide leadership, work direction, schedules, communication and on-site supervision for part-time/seasonal staff, contractual staff and volunteers.
• Organize the planning of programs, trainings, meetings, ongoing coaching and evaluations.
• Supervise, lead, and set a positive example for participants.
• Technical assistance with program and event management including registration, marketing, staff supervision, schedules, public outreach, communications and coordination of employees and programs.
• Responsible for communication with program partners, participants and employees regarding program updates, facility conditions and weather related issues.
• Keep accurate records of daily attendance, accident reports and discipline reports.
• Document and inform supervisor of on-site program concerns including scheduling conflicts, maintenance needs, and all other pertinent program related issues.
• Inventory supplies and equipment for programs, communicate with supervisors and purchase additional supplies as directed.
• Ability to work well with other independently as responsibilities may require.
• Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
• Other duties as assigned.
